How HEMAP helped PA homeowners

HEMAP – the Homeowners Emergency Mortgage Assistance Program – started nearly thirty years ago by the state of Pennsylvania to assist homeowners facing foreclosure.  Or, at least it did until last summer when the state rolled back the program’s funding.  Over the program’s operation, nearly 50,000 families have been able to avoid foreclosure in PA. Fairfax County, VA

Problems with affordable housing and homelessness are endemic to virtually all counties in America.  A recent Washington Post article helps illustrate the point by focusing on Fairfax, VA – the third richest county in the country (following only neighbors in Falls Church and Loudoun).  In an era of cutbacks and decreased funding, Fairfax policymakers are making tough decisions about who to help.
